This is a benign week.
It was the last week of my flu-thing I hope. with the coughing and short breath. I feel better the last three days. Each one a little better. I think I might live.
I've not had much chance to go out and look at things. I've only heard the general patter that constantly goes on when you are near and touch other people. Visas run out and some have to go home for a month until it's renewed for either six months, a year, or three months. It's a mystery as to why you are given any particular one. At least, amongst expats. The days breeze by, melding into one another with all the mundane things in life taken care of by officials and workers.
It's funny how things seem to work here. I have yet to hear anyone say, "No, we can't do that." but I have heard them say, "Yes, we can." then ignore the issue. The apartment we are waiting for was to be ready by first of March. Then the middle, so a son could "finish school", then the end of March. Oh. ok. April the tenth, no later. Fifteenth of April "because the man had to go on a business trip". The next Friday FOR sure, packed and out of there. Monday? (still some files in the apt that for some strange reason he hadn't moved with the movers.) AHA, the packers are not finished.. they would be finished by seven last night, when the key would be delivered PERSONALLY to our hands. But do we have a key this morning? No, we do not. And what bugs me the most is: Nobody ever called to tell us about each of these changes. They just let it slide, with their cel phones turned off. What sort of courtesy is that? And why hold on to an apartment like that? Makes NO sense. Of course, we are talking about a man who bragged to everyone that he was the new Head of Operations in a new town. The Area manager overheard everyone congratulating him, and had to quickly call a meeting in the conference room, drawing a graph of where each person stood in the scheme of things. (THIS man is an accountant. ) He had been telling people that they would now "report to him". Strange isn't it? Did he get it THAT wrong? How could he believe such a thing? And why go about bragging? There must be more to it.
I'm glad I brought my dog. She is a joy. She loves life no matter what. She is miffed at me for washing all her toys. :) and that is the report for today. It should get a bit more interesting after I get to a "real" life.
